Back to Reality

You know, I have about five billion things I'd like to post here (some even non-sports related - bonus!), but I never seem to have the time and energy. During the week, I'm out of the house from about 6.30 to 6pm, and by the time I settle in after dinner, it's almost time to go to bed. Or I have nights like tonight where I *have* to do two loads of laundry or I have to delve into the "bad bra" part of my dresser (ladies, you know what I'm talking about). Which reminds me, I think I have to go downstairs and get the clothes out of the dryer shortly. Shit.

Anyway.

Those Olympics sure ended with a bang didn't they? I'm not talking about the Closing Ceremonies either - I was getting my birthday dinner instead. Besides, I think I would have run out of the room if I had seen that mime.

I have three emotions upon the completion of Olympic hockey:

Happiness: I don't think hardly anyone (including myself I will admit) thought the US had a snowball's chance in hell to make it to the gold medal game - but there they were, undefeated no less! Sure, we know what happened in the end (BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO), but the giddyness I felt in anticipation of the game was unmatched. Judging by the ratings, I think a lot of people felt the same way. I will forever be a fan of Ryan Miller - not only for his amazing play, but his grace in defeat - I think a certain Canadian goalie could learn from him. I hope he wins the Vezina this year and I wish him all the best. Except when he plays the Hawks of course, but even then I hope he's either on the bench or only loses 1-0. I am also so happy for how all six Hawks played in the tournament:

Patrick Kane        3G   2A   +4   22SOG   104:11 TOI
Jonathan Toews   1G   7A   +9   10SOG   102:32 TOI
Duncan Keith       0G   6A  +6   10SOG    145:10 TOI (eeee!)
Brent Seabrook    0G   1A  +2    4SOG     59:05 TOI
Marian Hossa      3G    6A   0    26SOG    131:47 TOI (eee x two!)
Tomas Kopecky   1G    0A  +1   9SOG      77:05 TOI

Great job guys! *prays to FSM that some of these minutes racked up won't have adverse effects in April/May/June.* And as much as I wanted the US to win, this picture makes me smile:

Too bad I can't photoshop Brodeur's fat head out of it.

Sadness: This feeling doesn't need much explanation. It begs the question: which is worse - coming back from two goals down and coming within an eyelash of victory, or never being in the game at all. I don't know the answer to that. I suppose if the US was never in the game, the Canadian fans would have had a field day saying we didn't deserve to be there. Still, Ryan Miller's face after he gave up the final goal was heartbreaking. I wept for him on the inside.

Anger: Of all the players on Team Canada to score the OT winner, whywhywhyWHY did it have to be Crosby? ARGH! Don't we get enough of him shoved down our throats that he's the greatest thing since the toaster oven? And now this. Shit, let's burn all of the 99 Gretzky banners and just retire the #87 around the league. I'm sorry - aside from that goal and the SO winner against the Swiss, he was practically invisible for the tournament (except for his huge nostrils - he could suck the air out of a rink in 6.7 seconds). I kinda hope there's a Hawks/Pens Cup Final in the future so Toews can show him how a real Captain plays.

*deep breath*

So, tomorrow the Hawks pick up where they left off at the Islanders. Niemi gets the start - has anyone determined if Huet is in fact still alive? Did he get deported?

21 more games until the fun really begins.

Oh one last thing....the newest in hockey fashion...the jersey dress:

That's Amy in my brother's Versteeg jersey. He's a full foot taller than her, and he's "husky" by any definition. We brought it with us to Rockford on Saturday to get signed, but was not successful. But that is a topic for another post.

  1. Laundry is of the devil, you have my sympathies.

Lol at Amy in the jersey "dress." If the league sees her they'll start selling them for $300 a pop in the NHL store. (After they bedazzle them of course.)
